China delivers 2nd Type 054A/P frigate to Pakistan
Pakistan Navy formally commissioned its second Type 054 A/P frigate, PNS Taimur (266). The commissioner ceremony took place at the Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai, China, on June 23, 2022
PNS TAIMUR is the second ship of four Type 054A/P Frigates built for the Pakistan Navy. The first PNS TUGHRIL joined PN Fleet in January this year while another two frigates of the same class are currently under construction in China.
Type 054A/P is a technologically advanced and highly capable sea asset having hi-tech weapons and sensors, the latest combat management and electronic warfare system to fight in a multi-threat environment. “These ships will provide a sustainable boost to the combat capability of Pakistan Navy and enable to meet emerging challenges in the domain of maritime security and regional peace,” the navy said.
Head of Pakistan Navy Mission at China Commodore Rashid Mehmood Sheikh said that induction of state-of-the-art Type 054 A/P Frigates will significantly enhance Pakistan Navy capabilities in strengthening the defense of sea frontiers.
He also praised the concerted efforts of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), China Shipbuilding Trading Company (CSTC), China Ship Development & Design Centre (CSDDC), HZ Shipyard and PLA Navy for the landmark achievement and timely delivery of the well-equipped and potent Frigate.
