Must Read

Honda showcased its latest EV, the 0 SUV, at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 on January 7, marking the second model in its 0 Series lineup after the 0 Saloon introduced last year.

The battery-electric Honda Zero prototypes are the first models of the Honda Zero Series. The Honda 0 SUV is based on its Space-Hub concept. The second is a sedan based on its Saloon concept, called the Honda 0 Saloon.

The midsized SUV prototype reflects Honda’s vision for its electric vehicle future and is set to be the first in the series to reach customers.

The production version of the Zero SUV will debut in North America in the first half of 2026 and will be manufactured at Honda’s EV Hub factory in Ohio. Following its North American launch, the SUV will expand to global markets.

Thin, light, and wise design philosophy

Honda has adopted the mantra “thin, light, and wise” for the 0 Series, focusing on efficient design and user experience.

In keeping with “the thin, right and wise approach to this model, we have further increased the interior space of the cabin, achieved outstandingly clear and unrestricted field of view and provide great flexibility for the seating position,” Katsushi Inoue, Honda’s senior managing executive officer, emphasized during the unveiling.

The 0 SUV will feature steer-by-wire technology and advanced automated driving software co-developed with Helm.AI. However, Honda has yet to release detailed specs for the vehicle.

“Our EVs will offer ultra-personal optimization by thinking completely about the customer, and optimizing all details including precise control settings for vehicle dynamics,” Katsushi said. “Like a smartphone, various functions of 0 Series models will continue to advance even after the purchase. The more it is used, the more personalized it will become.”

The reveal came shortly after Honda and Nissan announced a potential merger to better compete in the evolving EV landscape dominated by Tesla. The collaboration may also include Mitsubishi, signifying a major shift in the Japanese automotive industry.

Honda also announced its new software platform, ASIMO OS, named after its renowned bipedal robot. This system integrates the vehicle’s electrical architecture with infotainment, promising a “customized mobility experience” for users.
