A Pakistani military helicopter with six people on board, including an army general, crashed on August 1, officials confirmed.

All six were declared dead on Tuesday after the wreckage was found on a mountain.

The army aviation helicopter was taking part in a flood relief operation in the southwest of the country.

“The wreckage of the unfortunate helicopter which was on flood relief ops found in Musa Goth, Windar, Lasbela,” the army said in a statement. “The accident occurred due to bad weather,” the military said in a statement.

All 6 officers and soldiers incl Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali embraced martyrdom.

The six-member crew included the 12 Corps Commander Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali, director general of the Pakistan Coast Guard, Major General Amjad Hanif Satti, Brigadier Muhammad Khalid, pilot Major Saeed, co-pilot Major Talha and Naik Mudassar.

The Pakistan army aviation helicopter was on flood relief operations in Lasbela, Balochistan, when it lost contact with air traffic control, the army said.

The area where the chopper went missing was mountainous terrain, making it extremely difficult for search and rescue parties, local officials said.

Weeks of unusually heavy monsoon rains and subsequent flooding have killed at least 478 people across Pakistan with at least 136 dead in Balochistan alone, according to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The devastation has prompted the military, navy and air force to mobilize their personnel and assets to assist in civilian relief operations in the province, evacuating thousands of marooned people and delivering food and relief items to victim families.
