Imran Khan lays foundation of third Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital in Karachi

Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital Karachi will be completed by December 2019, it will cost Rs. 4.5 billion.

Pakistan’s known philanthropist and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan attended the groundbreaking ceremony organized by Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust for the third Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital in DHA City Karachi.

Upon its completion, the hospital will be the third of its kind in the country to be established by the cricketer-turned-politician.

Chairman PTI Imran Khan and ten-year-old pediatrics patient Waleed Ahmed from Jamshoro, laid down the foundation stone of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital Karachi.

This comprehensive cancer center will be built at a cost of Rs. 4.5 billion and will help us continue our mission to provide state-of-the-art cancer care to the people of Pakistan, irrespective of their ability to pay.

While addressing a large gathering at the groundbreaking ceremony, Imran Khan said “It was not an easy task to arrange Rs700 million for the cancer hospitals and I had never thought that this journey to establish the cancer hospitals would be so difficult”.

“When I first started the hospital, no one thought of a free cancer hospital in Pakistan, for an ordinary person cancer treatment is very expensive and so, 90% of them cannot afford it but SKMCH&RC provides free treatment to around 75% of patients at our hospitals”  he added.

Chairman Imran Khan praised Hospital management and organizers and helping staff, “whether you have money or not, there is no discrimination between the patients, you get the same medical treatment.”

“We will try to inaugurate the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital in Karachi by December 29, 2019” Khan said.

The new hospital will make comprehensive cancer care accessible for low-income patients across Sindh and adjoining areas. Two state-of-the-art Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospitals in Lahore and Peshawar are already providing cancer care tremendously to the indigent cancer patients.

People from different walks of life attended the ground breaking ceremony Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, board members, hospital’s senior management and representatives from different quarters of the city, hospital’s well-wishers, donors and celebrities will be present at this extraordinary event.

Pakistan former cricketer and record holder batsman Javid Miandad, Famous actor Javid Shiekh, Hamza Ali Abbasi and many other prominent people also attended the ceremony. Brigadier Shahid Hassan Ali, Administrator, DHA Karachi was the guest speaker of the ceremony.
