Tributes pour in for Pakistan’s legendary guitarist Aamir Zaki

Pakistani musicians and music fans bid farewell to country’s top guitar virtuoso, Aamir Zaki

Several musicians, artists, singers, colleagues and guitar lovers from showbiz industry expressed their condolences and paid rich tribute to legend guitar maestro Aamir Zaki on his death.

The prominent showbiz icons including Mahira Khan, Bilal Khan, Humaima Malick, Shehzad Roy and Faysal Qureshi acknowledged his incredible skills of playing guitar and legacy he leaves behind for the future generations.

A former member of Vital Signs and guitarist Asad Ahmed paid tribute to Aamir Zaki said, “I must say that he was the most talented guitarist I ever came across in Pakistan. Not just as a musician, but even as a person, he was likeable and humble”.

Ahsan Bari of Sounds of Kolachi sharing his views about Aamir Zaki said, “What can I say that hasn’t already been said about him? He was a virtuoso, a genius who couldn’t be replaced.”

Fuzon band member Imran Momina reacted to the sad news by saying, “We have been honored to play with him several times. He was the most influential guitarist and it’s just sad to hear this news”.

Pakistani songwriter and guitarist Aamir Zaki passed away at the age of 49 on Friday after suffering cardiac arrest, his family confirmed. Aamir’s brother Shahid Zaki told Pakistani media that he was ailing for quite some time.

Playing guitar since the age of 14, Zaki was best known for a short stint with the Vital Signs in 1994 when he toured globally with the group. He also played with the band on their fourth album before being asked to leave.

He then released his debut solo album Signature in 1995, from which the most popular song Mera Pyaar became a massive hit.

The musician, who made his overdue debut on Coke Studio in 2014, was last seen in action performing at the two-day long I Am Karachi Music Festival.

Zaki’s funeral was held after Fajr prayers on Saturday, He was laid to rest at the Steel Town graveyard in Karachi. Numerous of the guitarist’s friends and associates participated in his funeral.
