Azerbaijan has signed a deal with Italian defense and aerospace company Leonardo to procure the C-27J Spartan airlifter.
Azerbaijani delegation signed the contract in Italy on June 8 in the presence of representatives of the defense ministers of the two countries, Azernews reported.
The contract is described as strengthening a “commercial collaboration between Italy and Azerbaijan”. With this new agreement, the longstanding partnership between the two countries has not only solidified its presence in the energy sector but has also expanded its reach into the realm of defense industry products.
“The agreement is part of the extensive modernization program of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, which are increasingly looking to the products of Italian industry,” Leonardo said in its statement.
The procurement of the C-27J, a highly capable tactical transport aircraft with years of proven experience in the most challenging operational scenarios, was successfully concluded through a technical round table discussion between the Italian Ministry of Defence and its Azerbaijani counterpart.
