FM Qureshi calls on Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE

Qureshi apprised the UAE leadership of the Kashmir situation and Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace efforts  

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi called on His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, in Dubai and discussed matters of mutual importance. He also expressed warm regards on behalf of Prime Minister Imran Khan.  

Meeting with the UAE Foreign Minister

Qureshi also met His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The two foreign ministers discussed the importance of the regional partnerships enjoyed by the two brotherly nations.  

They agreed to enhance mutual ties, especially in the areas of the economy, trade, and investment. Qureshi assured his counterpart of Pakistan’s active participation in Expo 2020. He also appreciated the support from the UAE government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pakistani community in the UAE

The Pakistani community in the UAE, which is now 1.6 million strong, was also discussed. Qureshi called it the cornerstone of the relations between the two countries.

“The welfare of our 1.6 million strong diaspora in the UAE was discussed, with the strengthening of our people to people ties a cornerstone of our bilateral relationship,” he said.

Qureshi also apprised Al Nahyan of the current atrocities from the Indian forces in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He also outlined Pakistan’s consistent efforts for peace in Afghanistan.   

Praising the hard work and dedication of Pakistani professionals and workers in the UAE, Foreign Minister Qureshi acknowledged their positive contribution towards the progress and development of the UAE as well as Pakistan. He discussed with his counterpart matters pertaining to Pakistani Diaspora’s welfare and stressed the need to further strengthen people to people linkages between the two brotherly countries.
