FPCCI recognized as sole representative of all trade bodies in Pakistan

Karachi — FPCCI is the apex body of trade, industry and services of the country duly recognized by the Government and when such a body exists, there is no need to form any other Business Forum outside its ambit – This was stated by President FPCCI in a meeting of Pakistan – German Business Council of FPCCI held at the Federation House Karachi. Regarding formation of German-Pakistan Trade and Investment (GPTI) by German Mission in Pakistan, he stated that in the presence of a National Chamber (FPCCI), which has a well-established practice of signing MoUs with counterpart bodies; the need for a parallel arrangement without the involvement of FPCCI appears to be unnecessary.
The meeting asserted that the sole and authorized representative in matters like formation of Joint Business Councils/ Joint Chambers of Commerce and Industry with the National Chamber of any other country is the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which is the National Chamber of Pakistan. It was decided to call a separate meeting of FPCCI with GPTI to discuss and resolve the matter. The meeting also requested the government to take this issue with the German Mission here in Pakistan as FPCCI has been handling all the trade and commerce related matters over the years successfully so it is now beyond comprehension that a parallel Forum in the form of GPTI has been formed.
The meeting welcomed the German Mission in Pakistan to promote the bilateral trade between the two countries from the FPCCI’s platform. Further, it emphasized that all Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) related to trade and economic cooperation between the two countries shall be signed from the FPCCI platform. In addition, more endeavors should be made by the government to enhance the trade volume between the two countries. The meeting also requested the government to take the FPCCI on board while signing JBC and business related agreements with other countries and also to accompany the members of FPCCI on mission to other countries for strengthening bilateral trade ties.
