National Data Centre for e-governance is the top priority: IT Minister Anusha Rahman
ISLAMABAD – National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) inaugurates first ever National Data Centre of Pakistan in Islamabad. National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) has established a cloud-based NDC for the government and public sector entities.
The inauguration ceremony held in the capital was attended by Minister of IT Ms Anusha Rahman Khan, Chairman PTA Dr Ismail Shah and various professionals from the IT industry of Pakistan. The event was organised by Huawei Technologies Pakistan Pvt. Ltd.
National Data Centre is built with an objective to accomplish the e-governance model of the federal government. Pakistan is the first ever South Asian Association for Regional Corporation (SAARC) country to implement this model.
Chairman NTC Brig (r) Viqar Rasheed Khan said, in the opening speech of the event, The Data Centre will be added with the latest IT features and it will be highly technical. The Data Centre will provide the facilities to the government bodies with different services in data communication as various other private service providers are offering to their clients.
‘NTC expanded its presence from 54 districts in 2013 to 84 cities and sites in 2016, adding that around 36% growth was observed in broadband connections,’ he added.
The centre will also conform to the tier-3 standards and it will also provide services like Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Besides e-governance, it will also assist in e-commerce and e-health.
IT Minister Anusha Rahman also stated that the National Data Centre for e-governance is the top priority right now. While addressing the audience, Anusha Rahman stated: ‘It takes too much time when we work with government sectors because there are too many hurdles and slow process.’
‘We are trying to give 3G service in all parts of the country even in villages. We are also giving basic training of IT to Sweet Home children in the different part of the country,’ she added.
Anusha Rehman said under the ICT for Girls programme, around 100 schoolgirls in rural areas would be equipped with technical training. She congratulated the MoIT legislators’ team for preparing a comprehensive Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act. The objective of the law is to provide secure online usage to the people, she added.
Engr Miraj Gul, DG (Technical) NTC, presented the salient features of this Data Centre and assured that this project will be completed in short time and it will give the chance to the clients to use it.
