Islamabad and Moscow to expand trade and energy ties

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan will pay an official visit to Russia on February 23-24. He is visiting Moscow at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Prime Minister Khan will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including members of the Cabinet. “The bilateral summit will be the highlight of the visit.”

“During the summit meeting, the two leaders will review the entire array of bilateral relations including energy cooperation. They will also have a wide-ranging exchange of views on major regional and international issues, including Islamophobia and situation in Afghanistan,” the Foreign office said.

Islamabad and Moscow are looking forward to expanding trade and energy ties. The two countries signed an agreement to build $2.5 billion Pakistan Stream natural gas pipeline. The pipeline will transport 12.3 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas per year from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in Karachi and Gwadar to the large north-central city of Lahore.

The visit of the Prime Minister will contribute to the further deepening of the multifaceted Pakistan-Russia bilateral relationship and enhancement of mutual cooperation in diverse fields, the official statemnet said.

Pakistan and Russia enjoy friendly relations marked by mutual respect, trust and convergence of views on a range of international and regional issues.

Pakistani premier’s visit comes amid rising tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
