PM Imran Khan is on two-day historic trip to Moscow
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is on a “historic” visit to Moscow along with his senior cabinet members on Wednesday. Federal ministers Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Hammad Azhar, National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf and Aamer Mehmood Kiani are accompanying the prime minister.
In an interview with Russian media on Tuesday, Khan reiterated that his two-day visit for talks on economic cooperation was planned before the current crisis.
Islamabad and Moscow are looking forward to expanding trade and energy ties.
The bilateral summit will be the highlight of the visit. “During the summit meeting, the two leaders will review the entire array of bilateral relations including energy cooperation. They will also have a wide-ranging exchange of views on major regional and international issues, including Islamophobia and situation in Afghanistan,” the Foreign Office said.
The prime minister’s trip to Russia comes amid rising tensions between Moscow and Kyiv after President Vladimir Putin deployed military forces into two breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine.
On the Ukraine crisis, PM Khan said he was looking forward to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine-Russia crisis. He also said that the crisis “doesn’t concern” Pakistan which looks forward to strengthening trade ties with Russia.
