Pakistani pilot sisters make history by co-flying Boeing 777

PIA pilots – Maryam Masood and Erum Masood – make history by becoming first pair of sisters to fly Boeing-777s concurrently

KARACHI – Two Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilots made history by becoming the first pair of sisters in Pakistan to fly Boeing-777 airplanes at the same time.

Maryam Masood and Erum Masood made history by flying the coveted large Boeing-777 aircraft as pilots at the same time to several local and international destinations.

The two sisters flew the planes concurrently from Lahore to Karachi, Manchester, New York and London.

Erum was recently upgraded to fly a Boeing-777, which resulted in the happy coincidence of joining her sister in the cockpit. It is a good news from PIA, which has been running in losses for years and is struggling to improve its performance. It launched a premier service on Aug.14 to attract customers.

‘There is no recorded instance of two real sisters flying a commercial aircraft together anywhere in the world,’ Danyal Gilani said.

PIA Spokesman Danyal Gilani sent out this tweet to share the news:

The PIA has many female staffers, who mostly serve as air hostesses. There are also several women, who work in the offices of the national airliner. However, the women have not been serving as pilots.

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has started inducting females as pilots to fly the fighter planes. Sometime back, a woman pilot was killed in a crash. A movie is being made to project her unique services in the PAF.
