Pakistan’s APP and Romania’s AGERPRES sign agreement

The agreement of exchange of the news would help strengthen the bilateral friendship and promote greater understanding between the peoples of Pakistan and Romania

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s premier news agency Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation (APP) and Romania’s official news agency AGERPRESS inked a news cooperation agreement, on Thursday, for the two-way exchange of news.

The agreement is aimed at improving socio-cultural relations between Pakistan and Romania by allowing the people of two countries to understand each other’s culture.

Managing Director APP Masood Malik and Romanian Ambassador Emilian Ion signed the agreement at the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage.

Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid and Secretary Information Syed Imran Gardezi were also present during the signing ceremony. The two news agencies would exchange  news, photos and video footages for onward dissemination to their respective subscribers, under the agreement.

Pakistan and Romania were strategic partners and Bucharest is going to to further strengthen this partnership, Romanian Ambassador said after the signing ceremony.

The current MoU will help further cement relations between the two countries as both the news agencies shall be able to use each other’s services as per the terms and conditions laid down in the MoU.

“The agreement will allow people of Pakistan to get first-hand information about Romania. Likewise, the Romanian people will too have an opportunity to learn about Pakistan in detail.

Ambassador Emilian Ion was of the view such interactions contributed greatly towards promotion of people to people relations also. He The ambassador hinted at joining hands with the private news agencies of Pakistan as well in the coming days.

Managing Director APP Masood Malik said that Romania is an important country and signing of the agreement will help understand each other’s culture. Pakistan was witnessing speedy progress and the agreement will open new avenues for mutual cooperation, he said.

Established in 1947, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) is country’s premier national news agency. APP is the main source of international news for the Pakistani media and has cooperation agreements with some 35 news agencies.

Romanian National News Agency, AGERPRES, is country’s oldest the first autonomous news agency. AGERPRES is a member of European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), Association of Balkan News Agencies (ABNA-SA), Black Sea Association of National News Agencies and has partnered with over 40 news agencies worldwide.

The news cooperation agreement between APP and AGERPRESS is part of a series of cooperative initiatives, Pakistan has been taking since it tilted its foreign policy closer to the Eurasian region particularly Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
