Saudi Crown Prince visit Turkey for the first time in years to boost ties

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced a new era of bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, military, security and cultural spheres. The official reception ceremony was held at the Presidential Complex.

Trade and investment

According to the Turkish-Saudi joint declaration, the Saudi crown prince and the Turkish President discussed ways of developing and diversifying bilateral trade, easing trade exchange between the two countries and exploring investment opportunities. The two sides also discussed options to increase communication in the public and private sectors of the two countries and have tangible partnerships in various fields.

The two leaders also highlighted the importance of increasing the number of flights between Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

World Expo 2023

MBS also expressed his gratitude for Ankara’s support and backing of Riyadh’s candidacy to host World EXPO 2030, according to the joint statement. Expo 2030 is a proposed global fair to be held in 2030. Russia, South Korea, Italy, Ukraine, and Saudi Arabia have submitted bids to hold the event.

Cooperation in tech and energy

The two sides also discussed the possibility of developing and diversifying cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and smart cities.

They also expressed their cooperation expectations in the energy field, such as petroleum and refining, petrochemicals, energy efficiency, electricity, renewable energy, innovation, and clean technologies for hydrocarbon resources.

Saudi-Turkish Coordination Council

MBS and Erdoğan also agreed to activate the Saudi-Turkish Coordination Council, to further boost the level of cooperation and coordination between Ankara and Riyadh in areas of common interest, and to work on the sharing of experience between experts of the two countries, the statement added.

Saudi crown prince is on a regional tour:

The Saudi crown prince’s Turkey visit was part of a regional tour that also includes visits to Jordan and Egypt. MBS started his tour on Monday, June 20 with a two-day-visit of Egypt. The visit resulted in Saudi Arabia and Egypt signing deals worth $7.7 billion
