Turkey to appoint Defense Consultant in 9 countries including Pakistan

Turkey will send defense industry consultants to nine countries, taking into account the country’s defense industry priorities, according to a new decree published in the Official Gazette.

Consequently, the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) has been added to all the public institutions that deal with overseas organizations. The foreign representation of the Defense Industry Directorate will carry out diplomatic activities in the country of duty, besides overseeing the issues that fall under its scope.

Responsibilities of defense consultants

The defense consultants will follow, report and assess any developments in the defense industry of their country of appointment and keep the Presidency informed about the developments.

Other responsibilities of the overseas organization include, but not limited to:

  • Representing the Presidency at bilateral and multilateral international meetings
  • Reporting any defense related legislation in the country of appointment
  • Following up on the defense industry-related strategies and policies
  • Monitoring approval and similar processes, and gather information about the tenders to be held, and
  • Carrying out export permits and licenses

The defense consultants will also play their part in the development and strengthening of communication and cooperation between the two countries’ public and/or private institutions, organizations, and companies by exploring opportunities for joint research and development (R&D), technology acquisition, product development, export to a third country and similar cooperation projects.

Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the bilateral defense agreements, protocols, and MoUs signed between the country of duty and the defense industry will also fall under the jurisdiction of the overseas organization. SSB’s duties also include carrying out foreign affairs and transactions.

As part of the resolution, Defense Industry Consultancy staff will work in embassies of nine countries.
