U.S. National Security Adviser assures strong bilateral ties with Pakistan

U.S. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster stress “the need to confront terrorism in all its forms”

United States National Security Adviser Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster concluded his Pakistan’s visit after high-level meetings with met civilian and military leaders, its first high-level interaction between Pakistan and the US since the Trump administration.

H.R McMaster during his daylong trip met civilian and military leaders to stress “the need to confront terrorism in all its forms” and reviewed efforts aimed at stabilizing neighboring Afghanistan.

U.S Security Adviser met with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his top foreign policy aides before holding talks with the country’s powerful military chief, Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Prime Minister office issued a statement after the meeting with U.S Security Adviser, letter said “McMaster conveyed the greetings of President Trump and assured the prime minister that the American administration is committed to strengthening bilateral relations and working with Pakistan”.

In a separate statement of its own, the U.S. Embassy said McMaster “expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s democratic and economic development and stressed the need to confront terrorism in all its forms.”

Earlier, McMaster-led US delegation hold meeting with Pakistan’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Conveying Pakistan’s concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan.

Sartaj Aziz offered Pakistan’s open commitment to work with the international community to support efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Sartaj Aziz also highlighted the importance of effective border management between Pakistan and Afghanistan as part of the actions required to achieve sustainable peace in the region.

McMaster thanked Pakistan commitment for the new administration to work closely with Pakistan in strengthening mutually beneficial relations and towards the shared objectives of peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.

The delegation comprised US Ambassador David Hale, Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Laurel Miller, National Security Council Senior Director for South Asia Lisa Curtis and National Security Council Director for Pakistan John Jay Wise.
