The delegation briefed on Pakistan’s humanitarian support for Afghanistan

A leading Pakistani think-tank expert and researchers held detailed discussions on Afghanistan with United Nations officials assigned to Afghanistan and briefed the visiting team about its apprehension over developing humanitarian crisis.

Experts of Centre for Afghanistan Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted an in house meeting with Ms. Mette Knudsen, the Deputy Special Representative (Political) DSRSG, for Afghanistan in the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to exchange views and opinions. Ms. Knudsen was accompanied by Senior Political Affairs Officer, Mr. Dmitri Kabaev, the Head of UNAMA Liaison Office in Islamabad, Mr. Peter Drewniany and the Special Assistant to the DSRSG, Ms. Aniella Van Bakel.

During the meeting, the situation in Afghanistan was discussed at length and the delegation was briefed extensively by Ms. Amina Khan, Director CAMEA about Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan as well as the regional perspectives on the issue.

There was an exchange of views regarding the grave humanitarian crisis, economic challenges, women’s rights and counterterrorism issues in Afghanistan, and the urgent need to remain engaged with the political dispensation in Afghanistan to avert a breakdown of the state.

Pakistani officials had been expressing their concerns over sanctions on Afghanistan by certain states that would severely affect the masses and could jeopardize humanitarian efforts to save millions of children and women from poverty.
