Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 with ultra-thin bezels to launch on September 11th

Xiaomi will unveil its next bezel-less Mi Mix 2 ahead of the new iPhone

Xiaomi has just confirmed that the second-generation Mi MIX smartphone will be launched at an event on September 11. The Chinese company revealed the launch date in a Weibo post, and confirmed that the event will take place in Beijing.

A few days ago, Philippe Starck, the man who designed the original Mi Mix, shared a preview video of a device under the name of the Mi Mix 2. Xiaomi’s teaser resembles a lot to the phone shown in Philippe’s video, which could mean that the final product could come with a very slim chin at the bottom housing the front camera.

Most importantly, the front panel does not show any hole for home button or fingerprint scanner.

In terms of features and specifications, the smartphone will feature a 6.2-inch display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels. It is further said to be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 836 SoC aided by 6GB RAM.

Reports also suggest that an 8GB RAM variant might also be on its way as well. With the latest MIUI announced last month, the company is likely to ship the smartphone with Android 7.0 Nougat based MIUI 9 OS out-of-the-box.

The Mi Mix 2 event will take place one day before Apple holds its big annual fall products showcase. Apple is almost certain to announce its own take on the bezel-less phone that day, so Xiaomi — often accused of ripping off Apple in the past, though not so much of late — will likely do its best to steal some of the presumed iPhone 8‘s thunder.
