Xiaomi to kick off manufacturing of mobile devices in Pakistan

Xiaomi has partnered with Pakistan’s Air Link Communication to produce smartphones in Lahore

Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has announced the launch of the mobile device manufacturing facility in Pakistan.

Xiaomi has joined hands with Select Technologies (Pvt) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air Link Communication Limited, for Xiaomi mobile phone production in Pakistan.

The state-of-the-art mobile device manufacturing facility will be inaugurated on March 4, 2022, at Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate, Kot Lakhpat, Lahore.

President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi will attend the launch ceremony of where Xiaomi will be kicking off mobile phone production facility in Pakistan.

“This initiative is expected to generate a sales volume of $550 million per year while creating thousands of jobs in Pakistan,” the official announcement said.

“This production facility is a step forward in the direction of PM’s vision of ‘Make in Pakistan’ and will have a huge impact on Pakistan’s economy resulting in the export of locally produced Xiaomi mobile phones.”

Air Link Communication Limited is targeting a production of initially around 2.5 to 3 million handsets annually subject to the smooth supply chain.

Select Technologies will be the manufacturing partner whereas Air Link Communication will continue to be one of the largest distributors of Xiaomi phones in Pakistan.
