12th CNS International Squash Championship kicks off in Islamabad

Squash players from Egypt, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Holland, Jamaica, Wales, UAE and Jordan are joining Pakistani players in the championship

ISLAMABAD – The 12th Chief of Naval Staff International Squash Championship kicked off at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Saturday (15 October 2016).

‘This is the first time ever that Pakistan Navy is conducting this mega international event in Islamabad’ announced Commodore Khalid Pervez SI(M), Commander North, at a media briefing in Islamabad.

Squash players from Egypt, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Holland, Jamaica, Wales, UAE and Jordan are joining Pakistani players in the championship. Around 40 players including 15 international ranking foreign players are participating in the event which comprises of three rounds.

This year the tournament is bigger and better as the prize has also been increased significantly to 25000 US Dollars. The week-long International Squash Championship 2016 tournament began on 15 October and will conclude on 22 October 2016.

“The Squash championship will provide a great entertainment to squash enthusiasts and will be an opportunity to witness quality game and further bring international squash to Pakistan” Cdre Khalid Pervez remarked.

He hoped that the spectators will witness some remarkable performance of players who will present an excellent combination of speed, flexibility, agility, determination and stamina which they will cherish in the years to come.

Over the years Pakistan Navy has contributed significantly for the promotion of Squash in the country. The first CNS International Squash Tournament was conducted in 2000 with a prize money of 6000 US Dollars. Since then, these events were conducted in Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan and Jahangir Khan Squash Complex at Karachi.

With this international Squash Championship, Pakistan Navy aims to promote sports of squash at all levels. “Pakistan Navy, besides its primary mission of protecting sea frontiers of the country, is vigorously discharging its civic responsibilities, may it be in the field of education, social welfare or promotion of sports. Pakistan Navy is organizing Golf, Hockey, shooting and Sailing Championships for promotion of sports in the country” Cdre Khalid Pervez said.

He also expressed gratitude to all sponsors for the promotion of sports and appreciated Pakistan Squash Federation’s efforts in making the event a reality.
