21 people died in deadly blast at Kabul mosque

Must Read

A blast that ripped through a crowded Kabul mosque during evening prayers on Wednesday had killed 21 people, Kabul police said. The mosque’s imam is also reported to be among the dead.

Another 33 people were injured, according to Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran.

Witnesses said that a powerful explosion was heard in a northern Kabul neighbourhood that shattered windows in nearby buildings, Reuters reported.

It is unclear who was behind the attack. However, in recent weeks Islamic State (IS) militants have emerged as the most potent enemy of the Taliban, who took control over Afghanistan last year.
