Afghanistan’s Dr Abdullah meets Pakistani leadership, hopes for better ties

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation, has met several top officials in the country after his arrival yesterday. The visit is about strengthening the ties between the two brotherly nations. The Afghan peace talks between the Afghan Government and the Taliban are also on the agenda. The talks are being held in Doha, Qatar and will discuss many major issues of contention between the two parties.

Meetings with Pakistani leadership

Abdullah held a meeting with the Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The two leaders discussed a number of matters of importance including the socio-economic uplifting of Afghanistan and the peace process. Qureshi tweeted that the visit strengthened the ties between the two nations.

Qureshi believes that the visit “will provide an opportunity for wide-ranging exchange of views on the Afghan peace process and strengthening of Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral relations and people-to-people interaction.”

He further added that Pakistan will completely support all efforts that help improve the conditions in the neigh boring Afghanistan. “Pakistan fully supports all efforts for the peace, stability and prosperity of the Afghan people,” according to an official statement.

Abdullah also called on the speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan. The two discussed bilateral ties. Abdullah also thanked the speaker for the new visa process for Afghan citizens.

Asad Qaiser also echoed similar sentiments and appreciated Dr. Abdullah Abdullah for his efforts for peace. He hoped that the two countries can work together to achieve peace and boost their trade ties.
