Apple said it has started assembling its flagship iPhone 14 in India as the U.S. tech giant looks to shift some production away from China.

“The new iPhone 14 lineup introduces groundbreaking new technologies and important safety capabilities. We’re excited to be manufacturing iPhone 14 in India,” Apple said in a statement.

The company’s global partner Foxconn is manufacturing the device in the Sriperumbudur facility near Chennai.

Apple is about to move about 5% of iPhone 14 production from late 2022 to India, which is the world’s second-biggest smartphone market after China.

Earlier this month, Apple announced new iPhones, AirPods and Apple Watches.

The smaller model with a 6.1-inch screen is called the iPhone 14 Pro which will start at $999. The bigger model will be called the iPhone 14 Max and starts at $1099.

Powered by A16 Bionic, the fastest chip ever in a smartphone, iPhone 14 Pro introduces a new class of pro camera system, with the first-ever 48MP Main camera on iPhone featuring a quad-pixel sensor, and Photonic Engine, an enhanced image pipeline that dramatically improves low-light photos.

“Groundbreaking safety capabilities bring users even more security, offering help when they need it most. And with the incredibly powerful and efficient A16 Bionic chip and all-day battery life, this is the best iPhone yet” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
