Army recovers kidnapped son of Sindh Chief Justice in raid near Tank

Son of Sindh High Court Chief Justice Awais Shah recovered in KPK raid. “All credit goes to army” for finding my son, Chief Justice said

Awais Shah, abducted son of Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, has been recovered in an intelligence based operation near Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said military spokesman Lt General Asim Saleem Bajwa on Tuesday.

Three terrorists were killed during the operation, Director General ISPR Lt. General Asim Bajwa disclosed.

“Awais Shah son of Sindh Chief Justice recovered through an Intelligence based Operations (IBO) from custody of terrorists from near Tank,3 terrorists killed,” Bajwa tweeted.

Tank is located near South Waziristan where Pakistan’s security forces have battled local and foreign militants in the wake of US invasion of Afghanistan.

Bajwa also announced that the chief of army staff commended efforts of the Intelligence and security forces for successful operation. He also called and congratulated the CJ Sindh on recovery of his son.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also praised security forces and intelligence agencies for successfully recovering kidnapped son of the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, barrister Awais Ali Shah, on Tuesday.

Shah was abducted on June 20 from Clifton area of Karachi. According to officials, Shah, a high court lawyer, had left the SHC for Clifton to meet a friend, but did not reach there and his phone remained switched off. Later it was confirmed that he had been kidnapped.

CJ Shah gives all credit goes to army

Speaking to journalists as he was reunited with his son, SHC CJ Sajjad Ali Shah hailed the armed forces for the successful recovery of his son Awais Ali Shah. Although Awais Shah made a brief appearance, he did not talk to media.

“All credit goes to the army,” said the judge, adding that the army chief had been personally monitoring the team formed by DG ISI to recover his soon.

“Gen Raheel Sharif called me at 3 in the night and told me that my son has been recovered.”

The CJ said he had “absolutely no idea” about which group was behind the kidnapping.

“All I know at this time is that my son is back.”

Pakistan has seen high-profile kidnapping of Shahbaz Taseer, son of former Punjab governor late Salman Taseer, and Ali Haider Gilani, son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani before the abduction of Awais Shah over the last fiver years.
