Bahria University Islamabad celebrates its 15th Convocation

A total of 406 students were awarded degrees at the 15th Convocation of Bahria University Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – Bahria University Islamabad celebrated the academic accomplishments of its students and faculty, with the annual convocation. The 15th Convocation of the Bahria University was held at Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad today to honour the students with Gold and Silver medals and degrees for their outstanding achievements in their academic career at the Convocation 2016.

The President of Pakistan and the Chancellor Bahria University, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, the Pro-Chancellor Bahria University Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah and the Rector, Bahria University, Vice Admiral (Retd) Tanveer Faiz graced the occasion with their presence and conferred degrees to the graduating students.

A total of 406 students were awarded degrees who successfully completed their degrees from Bahria University.

Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, President of  Pakistan and the Chancellor Bahria University,  awarded 20 Gold medals and 18 Silver medals to various students, who achieved top positions in their respective departments. Gold medals and Silver medals were awarded to the students from each discipline to acknowledge their outstanding performance.

Waiza Rehman, Sahar Amjad, Ammara Mujtaba, Hammad Ghafoor, Qurat-ul-ain Malik, Muhammad Saad Mazhar, Faiza Rubab from Management Sciences Department, Raheela Arshad, Muhammad Amin Jaffer from Software Engineering Department, Imtisal Akhtar & Syed Ali Hasnain from Electrical Engineering Department, Jahanzeb Sarwar from Computer Engineering Department, Naeema Madiha Bari, Laraib Qureshi from Humanities & Social Science Department, Saima Tariq, Noor-Ul-Ain Ashraf, Shahbaz Ahmed Malik, Sayyada Phziya Tariq Wani from Earth & Environmental Sciences, Hussain Shabbir from Computer Science Department, Ayesha Munir from Law Department received gold medals.

Mr. Mamnoon Hussain congratulated the students and their parents on their splendid success and said that universities and institutions have a significant role in enhancing education nd fostering competencies to make productive citizen of Pakistan.

“Bahria University is taking necessary initiatives required for enhancing educational research activities. Scholarly research work and other forums of creative endeavors are essential for the sustained intellectual growth of any higher educational institution” the President said. He also appreciated the student`s merit and need-based scholarship and study loan schemes.

Bahria University has allocated Rs 33 Million for merit and need-based scholarships and study loans, Rector of the University announced at the Convocation ceremony. HEC has graciously provided Rs 9 Million for this purpose while Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) and National ICT R&D Fund under Ministry of IT will also sponsor Bahria  Univeristy students. “The new funding will provide an opportunity to students coming from low-income background to pursue higher education in Bahria University” the Rector said.

“Our vision is to prepare our students for the national as well as international market, while maintaining high standards of education.” the Rector hoped that new endeavors undertaken by the management of Bahria University with commitment and determination will yield the best results for all the stakeholders and will definitely provide competitive edge to Bahria University to become the leading University of the country.

In his welcome address, Vice Admiral (Retd) Tanveer Faiz, Rector of the University congratulated the students and their parents, and wished them a prosperous future. “Higher education has now become a tool of economic growth and the universities have great responsibility of producing quality graduates who could contribute positively in various fields for economic growth of the country” he said.

The ceremony was attended by senior naval officers, faculty members and a large number of students and their parents.
