Project offers water, sanitation and hygiene to 100 schools

A project with the aim to benefit the school, children, the community, and to build a better future of Pakistan, has helped the rehabilitation, water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities of the Islamabad Model School No.2 for classes 1 to 5, located in Sector I-9/4.

Under the project titled ‘Build My School Better’, the UN-Habitat and The CocaCola Foundation partnered to provide water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities to 100 schools of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

A ceremony was held to celebrate the improved hygenic facilities at schools as well as inaugration of a new playground as part of the project supported by UN-Habitat and the CocaCola Company. The event was attended by Mr. Nathan Kalambu (President TCCC, Eurasia and Africa Group), Mr. Curt Ferguson (President, TCCC), Ms. Bella Evidente (Country Programme Manager, UN-Habitat Pakistan), and other notables from CocaCola, UN-Habitat, and the school administration.

Commenting on the partnership Mr. Kalambu said, “Over the years, as the notion of ‘sustainability’ has developed, along with the idea that a company has a wider role to play within the society in which it operates, the early day’s concept of ‘good citizenship’ has expanded.  It’s not simply about philanthropy but about bringing people together to effect positive change. CocaCola & UN-Habitat’s partnership is precisely doing that, together we are bringing a positive change for the betterment of our societies.”

This partnership will benefit the school, children, the community, and build a better ground for the future of Pakistan. Stressing on the efficacy of the project, Ms. Evidente said: “The UN-Habitat and the CocaCola partnership is a unique synergy between the development and corporate sector, showing that the two can work hand in hand for the welfare of the communities they operate in.”

Ms. Evidente hoped to further this partnership towards providing safe drinking water, adequate sanitation facilities for boys and girls, and personal hygiene education for healthy living and sustainable environmental conditions.
