Pakistani government has awarded contract worth nearly $382 to Chinese Construction Third Engineering Bureau

China-Pakistan friendship and development projects are at its peak in current times. China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has paved way for development and investment opportunity in Pakistan.

A Chinese construction company has won the contract engineer, procure, and reconstruct Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore.

Federal government has awarded the contract worth nearly $382 to Chinese Construction Third Engineering Bureau. After its expansion reconstruction being issued to Chinese firm Allama Iqbal Airport, Lahore would become Pakistan’s largest airport.

China Construction Third Engineering Bureau has been awarded many other major projects including the Karachi-Lahore Expressway between Sukkur and Multan, Lahore’s Arfa Software Technology Park, and The Centaurus Hotel.

It is also the largest project that the Third Engineering Bureau has undertaken overseas, marking another important achievement in belt and road construction.

Previously, in May 2016, it was announced that the Spanish firm, TYPSA International, was awarded the contract to reconstruct the Lahore airport.

It was reported that the airport was to be remodeled in the shape of the national flower, Jasmine. After the expansion, the airport was said to have hanger capacity of 22 aircraft, up from 7 at present. TYPSA Group was supposed to finish the project within 30 months.

Questions abound as to whether the government has quietly changed the contractor for the project or is in the midst of doing so.

The Spanish company’s website, however, states that it has completed the detailed design of the new airport and has presented it to the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
