President Mamnoon Hussain says CPEC would prove to be a milestone in economic development of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a historic step forward under which the development of road, rail, sea and air infrastructure projects would transform the whole region into a hub of regional and global trade, remarked Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain.

He was addressing the participants at the inaugural ceremony of Beijing Forum-Islamabad 2016, jointly organized by National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad and Peking University, China.

The three-day event (May 24 to 26, 2016) is the first overseas chapter of the prestigious Beijing Forum, being held in China since 2004 as an apex event, centered on the theme of ‘Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All’.

President Mamnoon said the CPEC would not only lead to robust regional connectivity but also be a foundation of the historical “One Belt – One Road” vision of China, ushering in an era of global peace, prosperity and stability.

The Pak-China relations were a model for the whole world and both the countries had always adopted a common stance at all forums for resolution of international issues, regional peace and stability, he added.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Minister for Defence Production and Science & Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain, Chairman Peking University Council Prof. Zhu Shan Lu, Ambassador of People’s Republic of China to Pakistan Sun Weidong and Rector NUST Lt. Gen. (R) Muhammad Asghar were also present on the occasion.

Beijing Forum-Islamabad commemorates 65 golden years of China-Pakistan iron friendship in a unique way, as reflected in the principle theme ‘China and Pakistan in the Community of Common Destiny for All Mankind’. A panorama of complementary meetings, discussions and debates are set to strengthen Pakistan-China bilateral relations on their political, economic, strategic and cultural convergences. The Forum envisions advancing our shared knowledge landscape by bringing together experts from China, Pakistan and across the world.

The Forum will involve a collation of eminent statesmen, diplomats, academics, practitioners, and students to deliberate on issues such as security, trade, economy and culture. Moreover, the interactive sessions seek to shape meaningful intellectual input on subjects pertinent to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The three-day event will fetaure 3 plenary sessions and 11 panel sessions on a diverse range of topics. Beijing Forum-Islamabad offers a promise for global peace, prosperity and stability.

The event will also mark the launch of ‘China and Pakistan – Friends in Deed’, an exclusive publication by NUST Global Think Tank Network. The book will showcase an insightful account of vision and cherished experiences of several Chinese and Pakistanis, whose inspiring narratives will provide a glimpse of past, present and the future of ever-green China-Pakistan friendship.

Beijing Forum – Islamabad will focus on the ability of multidimensional China-Pakistan cooperation and partnership to maximize regional and global development, will utilize insights generated during various rigorous and interactive discussion sessions as comprehensive policy inputs for decision-making in China and Pakistan, and will conceive of ways in which global policy agenda can be redesigned to prioritize and practice in a single-minded manner ecologically conscious inclusive development of all the peoples of the world. In this spirit, Beijing Forum – Islamabad will continue to foster local, bilateral, intra-regional, inter-regional, and global knowledge-based collaborations.

What is Beijing Forum?

The Beijing Forum, established in 2004, is an annual event organized by Beijing Municipal Government and co-sponsored by Peking University under the auspices of the State Council and the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

Beijing Forum is founded upon the idea of open, deep, and impartial collective investigation of common problems, common challenges, and common opportunities for common development that produces symmetry and convergence amongst different economies, cultures, societies, and peoples of the world. Dedicated to harnessing the finest values of human civilization for contemporary and future progress.
