The delegation was told that the fully operational port would soon be connected with the coastal highway

A delegation from Djibouti lead by the President of the National Parliament and acting Chairman African Union Parliament Muhammad Ali Hameed visited Gwadar. Hameed said the seaports have great importance and can change the entire region’s economic situation. The delegation extended invitations to the Pakistani industrialists and business community to visit Djibouti to boost bilateral trade between the two countries further.

Director-General of Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Shahzeb Kakar enlightened the delegation about the work in progress on various projects to make Gwadar an important modern industrial city. Kakar also said that the authorities are working under the Gwadar Master Plan for developing free and economic zones. The DG also mentioned that the port city would be connected to the coastal highway as the work was in the closing stages.

The Chairman Gwadar Port Authority Naseer Ahmed Kashni also briefed the delegation. Kashni said that Gwadar port has become fully operational and is ideal for promoting trade and business in the entire region. He added that the Deep Sea Port could prove as a guarantor for promoting shipping trade for the entire world’s investors due to its economic importance and trade route.

Several dignitaries were also present at the occasion, including the President Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Naveed Kalmati, Senator Kuhda Babar, Commissioner Makran division, Tariq Qamar, Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Maj (retd), Abdul Kabir, among others.

A true game-changer

Gwadar is a real game-changer in the region as it will significantly reduce the time required to carry cargo by sea. China’s cargo shipping time will be reduced by more than two weeks, and billions of dollars each year can be saved by reducing the shipping time and sea freight costs. Pakistan will also benefit from the increased revenues at the port and the greater economic activity the port will generate. Gwadar is unique because the sea freighters can dock next to the port, and there is no need to bring cargo to the port via smaller ships like in some other ports.
