Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Friday that the Denmark government has agreed to help Pakistan in the renewable energy sector.

Qureshi said at a joint presser with the visiting foreign minister of Denmark, Jeppe Kofod that the bilateral ties between Denmark and Pakistan were on an “upward trajectory,” and hoped to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Danish Foreign Affairs Minister is on an official two-day visit to Pakistan on the call of his Pakistani Counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Foreign Minister Kofod will also meet with other dignitaries during his visit.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, during the presser, lauded the Denmark government’s decision to add Islamabad to its ‘Energy Transition Initiative’. He also appreciated the ongoing energy cooperation with Denmark. Both Foreign Ministers looked forward to the early conclusion of the Green Partnership Framework Agreement between Denmark and Pakistan.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Kofod met Qureshi at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. During meeting, Foreign Minister Qureshi reaffirmed the resolve to further expand the growing cooperation, particularly in the fields of trade and investment and renewable energy. He also highlighted the importance of high-level exchanges, parliamentary visits and enhanced people-to-people contacts for furthering bilateral ties.

The foreign ministers discussed Afghan situation

The two foreign Ministers also exchanged views on the latest developments in Afghanistan. Qureshi reiterated that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in the best interest of Pakistan as well as the region. He hoped that the Taliban government would make concerted efforts for peace and stability as well as work towards the betterment of 38 million Afghan people.

The Foreign Minister also urged the international community to remain engaged with Afghanistan and support the Afghan people. He said that Afghanistan needed urgent support to prevent a humanitarian crisis and to ensure economic stability.

FM Kofod lauded Pakistan’s role in evacuation of Danes

Foreign Minister Kofod thanked Pakistan for its facilitative role in the evacuation of its nationals and others from Afghanistan. Pakistan had assisted the transit of over 14,000 people from over 30 countries and international organizations after the Taliban took over Kabul in August.

Denmark is an important partner for Pakistan; both countries share cooperation, especially in energy and green technologies. And the visit of Denmark’s Foreign Minister will increase mutual understanding on regional and international issues.
