Anti-Terrorism Court granted seven-day remand and ordered FIA to submit report 31st March

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Pakistan has arrested three persons allegedly involved in a case regarding blasphemous content publishing on social media websites.

The arrested bloggers were presented before Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi at Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) where seven-day physical remand was granted on FIA request to find out other people involved in the posting blasphemous content.

FIA officials informed the court that mobile phones, laptops and computers have been seized from the suspects’ possession and sent for forensic examination.

They said that the alleged persons have been taken into custody on the suspicion of sharing and spreading blasphemous content via social media.

Anti-Terrorism Court directed authorities to present the suspects in the next hearing 31st and also submit the investigation report to the court.

It may be mentioned here that Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Shaukut Aziz Siddiqui has been hearing a petition seeking the removal of blasphemous content from social media.

On Wednesday, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui declared that whether or not social media platforms hosting blasphemous content should be banned, the court will decide it in next hearing on 27th March.

Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan said that a meeting of Muslim Countries envoys to Pakistan has been called to discuss the issue of blasphemous content posted on social media.

Talking to media, the minister said that invitations have been sent to the ambassadors in this regard. He added that blasphemy was an issue being faced by the whole Muslim community and a joint strong message will put more weight on service providers.

Hinting at banning social media websites, the minister said: “The social media websites are not more important than my religion and faith”.
