Germany launches safe drinking water scheme in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan

Islamabad (Pakistan) – German Ambassador Dr. Cyrill Nunn inaugurated three safe drinking Water Supply Schemes in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. These three Water Schemes in Chitral Town, Booni and Yasin Sandi will facilitate the access to quality water & sanitation for the local population in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Germany is supporting the project called WASEP (Water & Sanitation Extension Program) since the mid-1990s with grants exceeding Euro 10 million extended through the KfW Development Bank. The project is implemented by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). WASEP has so far covered over half of the population of the Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral areas.

Part of the Ambassador’s journey to the North was also a visit to the District Headquater Hospital and Burn-Trauma & Reconstructive / Plastic Surgery Centre, also funded by the Federal Republic of Germany.
