Germany will be offering technical assistance in the field of renewable energy under “Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Concepts in Cities and Industries” in Pakistan. The technical assistance is worth 4 million euros, or 700 million Pakistani rupees.
The agreement was inked by the Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan Bernhard Schlagheck and Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Noor Ahmed under the Pakistan-Germany Development Programme. The dignitaries stressed the strengthening of the relations between the two countries on the occasion. The developmental cooperation between the two countries has existed since 1961 and the funding volume to date is over 3 billion euros.
Germany is one of the more advanced nations when it comes to renewable energy. Last year, more than 46% of Germany’s energy came from renewable sources. The European country wants to use 65% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. Currently, Germany is getting its renewable energy from wind, solar, and biomass.
Pakistan has great potential in renewable energy due to its vast coastal line and bright sunlight. Solar energy is being harnessed with the help of government projects as well as at home level. As per reports, 27MWs of power is being transferred by homes using solar panels to the national grid. The wind energy, however, is not being harnessed at any noticeable scale. As per some recent statistics, Pakistan can produce over 100,000 MWs through wind energy.
