ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Government has been asked to take appropriate steps to mainstream and support the work of British Pakistanis who want to work for the progress & betterment of Pakistani society.
This demand was repeated by several speakers at gathering hosted by a Britain-based NGO called QED in Islamabad.
Terrorism and extremism have badly denigrated country’s name and added fuel to fire in the miseries of all expatriates including those who were living in UK and European countries as well, the speakers highlighted. During the focused group discussions, suggestions were given by heads of various community organizations for the government to take steps for restoration of country’s fame.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Mirpur University of Science & Technology (MUST), Dr Habib-ur-Rehman appreciated the organization’s work in Kashmir and demanded of the government to support such elements in the area who actually work for economic and social well-being of the society.
The Diaspora Consultation followed by a dinner was attended by Brig. Muhammad Aslam, Former Sec.General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Islamabad, Mr Akram Zaki, Retired Vice Admiral, Ahmed Tasnim, VC MUST Habib-ur-Rehman, Former Cricketer Yasir Hameed, Representatives from various Foreign Embassies and a large number of UK-based Pakistanis.
QED is a Bradford based NGO, headed by Dr. Mohammed Ali OBE (Pakistani) who has been working since 25 years for uplift of ethnic minority groups generally and Pakistani Diaspora specifically in the UK.
It is significant to mention that QED started working in 1990 and the gathering was as part of QED 25th anniversary.
