Lahore lead university, Superior University and University of South Asia are among the updated ban university list by HEC.
ISLAMABAD – Higher Education Commission (HEC) has declared 100 universities, colleges and institutions as illegal on its list on the website. At least 79 private universities in Punjab were found ghost with no existence on the provided addresses whereas inquiry committees have been formed to take action on others.
After several complaints registered by students/parents to the Commission regarding various issues, HEC, in first phase, conducted an inspection to investigate and judge education standard provided by institutes.
According to the information by HEC officials, Commission declared around 180 public and private colleges and universities throughout the country. Most of the institutes accused illegal are located in Punjab province, total 100 institutes are declared “ghost” institutes, 79 of which are private universities.
HEC inspection committee has declared a total of 36 institutes illegal in the province Sindh. While in Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa, Federal Capital and AJK the number of illegal institute mention were 11, 4 and 3 respectively.
These fake or illegal institution have registered their paper work but all banned institutes were lacking HEC degree awarding standard. Moreover, in the second phase of inspection, an inquiry committee will take legal action against 15 other universities apart from the listed fake universities.
Following various complaints registered from students these so called “educational” institutes, HEC formed a disciplinary committee of senior vice chancellors has been constituted to investigate 4 private universities in Lahore. These universities are mentioned below:
