Massive ‘Pakistan for Palestine’ demonstration in Karachi

A large number of people from the civil society came to support the calls for ending the war in Gaza

A massive protest took place in Karachi against the atrocities being carried out by the Israeli regime in Gaza where well over 200 people have been killed including dozens of children. Hundreds of buildings have also been partially or completely destroyed in the last week and a half.

Different civil society organizations joined forces to organize the protest in the port city. People from all walks of all life and all ages joined the protest against the Israeli apartheid. Even young families with toddlers were a part of the hours long gathering. The crowd carried placards calling Israel to stop its brutality. The protesters also chanted pro-Palestine slogans.

Talking to the media, people from all walks of life wanted the fighting to stop so that Palestinians can live in peace. Protestors also said that coming out in this manner helps their voice reach the corridors of power which is much better than sitting idle.

Stop bombing Gaza!

Hamza Harris, one of the organizers called for an immediate ceasefire. “Israel needs to stop bombing Gaza, it needs to stop forcing evictions,” he said. He also urged the boycott of Israeli products. “We demand the Pakistani government makes pro-BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) rules. We want to put pressure on our government to help with the boycott,” Harris said.

“Factories in Pakistan that share their profits with internationally recognised Zionist agencies should stop doing so and form a local body of their workers – and this can only happen with the help of our government,” Harris added.

Celebrities join protests

A large number of celebrities also joined the protests against the atrocities by the Israeli forces. Some of the names that took part in the protest including Shereyar Munawar Siddiqui, Ayesha Omer, Ali Rehman Khan, Mahira Khan, and Annoushey Asharaf among others. Many other top celebrities of the country also participated in protests in Lahore and Islamabad.
