Iconic Nokia 3310 re-launched with new features

The iconic Nokia 3310 handset has made a comeback and is soon to be put on sale for $52.

Nokia 3310, which is remembered one of the largest successful sold phones with 126 million units in the worldwide according to CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood, who called the phone a “worldwide phenomenon”. The phone is still widely acclaimed and has gained a cult status due to its durability. It is one of Nokia’s most iconic devices.

The re-entry of  Nokia 3310 will be having features including 22 hours talk time, choice of four colors including the original navy blue and the popular “Snake” keeping the qualities that made the original handset so popular robustness and battery life.

It’s not yet known exactly when HMD plans to starts selling the device, but it said that it will be available in the second quarter of 2017.

The Nokia 3310 will retail at an average global retail price of €49 (£41) – significantly less than its original price of £129.

Juho Sarvikas, chief product officer at HMD Global said that, “For the Nokia 3310 we just couldn’t resist, We wanted to reward loyal Nokia phone fans and make a statement that rich heritage, innovation and modern design can go hand-in-hand”.

The original 3310 had enough memory to store the last 8 dialled, 8 received, and 8 missed calls, as well as a selection of message templates. All the contacts were stored on the SIM.

It had a removable 900 mAh battery, which supposedly lasted between 55 hours and 260 hours in standby mode, with between two and a half and four and a half hours of talk time.

The original Nokia 3310 had a small monochrome graphic display, but HMD has brought it into the 21st century with a larger 2.4-inch, full colour display.

However don’t expect a high-resolution screen as seen on the latest Apple or Samsung devices. HMD is keeping the device simple, in order to preserve battery life.

More ever, it is slimmer and lighter, and the physical position and size of the buttons has been adjusted slightly, to fit in with the new slimmer design.

The handset comes in four colours – Warm Red and Yellow, both with a gloss finish, and Dark Blue and Grey both with a matte finish.

It also now boasts a 2-Megapixel camera, 16MB of internal memory – which can be expanded up to 32 GB with a microSD card – and 2G connectivity, to take the noughties experience online.

And yes – it comes with the iconic mobile game, Snake. It came back with four games – Snake II, Pairs II, Space Impact and Bantumi.
