Imran congratulates Bangladesh PM on Independence Day

Pakistani PM hoped that the region can attain peace after Sheikh Hasina Wajid congratulated him on Pakistan Day  

Prime Minister Imran Khan felicitated his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina Wajed on the 50th anniversary of the country. The letter comes a few days after Wajed wrote to Khan, congratulating him on the 81st Pakistan Day.  

“On my own behalf, and on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, I have great pleasure in extending our felicitations on the 50th anniversary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” Khan said.

Imran added that both sides share a history and have many commonalities. He hoped that long, sustainable peace can be achieved in the region.

“Pakistan deeply values its fraternal ties with Bangladesh, which are based on shared history, common faith, and convergent of interests in promoting lasting peace and security as well as sustainable prosperity in our region and beyond,” Khan said. “I think the destinations of the people of both the countries are connected with each other,” wrote PM Imran in his letter.

Wajed breaks the ice

Pakistan and Bangladesh have had rough relations for many years now. However, during the last year, both have made diplomatic efforts to improve the situation. The latest step was taken by the Bangladeshi PM when she wrote to her Pakistani counterpart to congratulate on Pakistan Day.  She reiterated that her country wants peace with all of its neighbors.  

“On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh and my behalf, I would like to extend to you, and through you, to the government and the people of Pakistan, our heartiest greetings on the occasion of Pakistan Day,” the letter read. “Bangladesh is committed to peaceful and cooperative relations with its neighboring countries, including Pakistan.”
