Israeli forces storm al-Aqsa Mosque second time, over 150 Palestinians injured

Israeli police have entered the al Aqsa compound in Jerusalem for the second time in three days, assaulting and barring Muslim worshippers inside prayer halls.

The al Aqsa Mosque is the third most holy site in Islam.

At least 19 people were reportedly injured as Israeli police carried out the second raid at the mosque.

Clashes between Israeli police officers and Palestinians broke out Friday morning, injuring more than 150 Palestinians and leading to more than 400 arrests.

Israeli forces fired teargas at worshippers and blocked them indoors for almost four hours. Dozens of people were trapped inside and were not able to evacuate. There were also reports of stun grenades being deployed.

Three people were transferred to the hospital after being beaten or hit by rubber-coated bullets, according to The Palestinian Red Cross

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said its medics were also prevented from entering the mosque to provide first aid.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the Israelis’ attack into the sacred mosque and their assault on worshippers. “This dangerous escalation is an affront to the feelings of the entire Muslim Ummah and a blatant violation of international resolutions and instruments,” the OIC said.

It held the Israeli occupation fully responsible “for the fallout of such daily crimes and offenses against the Palestinian people, their territories and sanctuaries.”

The Palestinian Authority blamed Israel for the consequences of the current tension at Al-Aqsa. “We call on the US administration to break its silence and stop this aggression that will inflame the entire region,” authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a statement published by state news agency Wafa.
