KFC and Huawei with its special smartphone aim to make its 30th anniversary celebrate memorably

It’s a surprising announcement that American fast food restaurant and global chicken chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) revealed a special edition of Huawei smartphone in China.

The new revealed smartphone device is a joint collaboration of Chinese electronics giant Huawei and KFC to make its 30th anniversary celebrate more memorable.

KFC opened its first Chinese restaurant in November 1987, near Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Now the company that operates KFC restaurants – amongst others – locally has over 7,500 stores nationwide and became world’s second-largest restaurant chain only after McDonald’s.

The phone is equipped with a 5-inch LCD display panel with a resolution of 1,280 by 720 pixels. Moreover, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 425, Qualcomm’s mid-range system-on-chip (SoC) with the Adreno 308 GPU.

In addition to it, the phone will come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal flash memory. However, its more premium variant will feature 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space.

Both models will sport a microSD card slot. However, both companies have not revealed any further information about this phone. “Between KFC and Huawei, one came from abroad had and settled its roots in China. The other (Huawei) originated here and later expanded its footprint globally,” Steven Li, senior vice president of KFC marketing with Yum China said. “Both brands have witnessed the rise of China in these 30 years, and both embody the spirit of the times. Our collaboration is homage to the era. The launch of the phone is also an important phase in the brand’s effort to fully digitalise the user experience and venture into into smart F&B and entertainment,” he added. Initial reports indicated that the phone in question is called the Huawei 7 Plus, though that seems to be a mistake as it looks like the recently released Enjoy 7 which is also not to be confused with the Enjoy 7 Plus, also known as the Y7 Prime in certain territories. According to the sources, only 5000 units of the special edition KFC Huawei 7 Plus will be available for sale. Users will be able to purchase the smartphone on brand’s official mobile app and also, from their e-shop on Alibaba’s TMall platform.
