Saudi King Salman pledged the kingdom’s support for east Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state during talks with president Mahmud Abbas.

According to SPA news agency the monarch stressed “the legitimate right of the Palestinian people in establishing their independent state with east Jerusalem as its capital.

During their meeting, the president briefed king Salman on the latest developments and contacts being made by him to protect Jerusalem from the dangers posed by the announcement by US President Donald.

President Abbas was also slated to meet with the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman later Wednesday to discuss the ongoing situation.

The Palestine president visit is the outcome of President Donald Trump decision of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel which anger Palestinians and Arabs.

According to news agency president Abbas has sent delegations to China and Russia to ask them to take a greater role in the peace process with Israel.

Also, the UN General Assembly is expected to vote today after the US vetoed a Security Council resolution that would have required the Trump administration to rescind its Jerusalem decision.

Trump last night threatened to cut funding to countries that vote against the US during the General Assembly vote condemning Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki accused Washington of “threatening” member countries of the UN General Assembly ahead of a vote on rejecting the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

He further  said that any honorable country would not bow to US pressure, urging Washington to reverse its mistake and God willing, I believe we will obtain a good result.

President abbas said he would now seek a multilateral international process to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict led by the United Nations.
