‘La La Land’ leads Oscars 2017 with record-tying 14 nominations

Must Read

La La Land leads with 14, Arrival and Moonlight get 8 nominations. Emma Stone competes against Natalie Portman for Best Actress

La La Land unsurprisingly leads the 2017 Oscar nominations — after clinching a historic seven Golden Globes — while films like Moonlight, Fences, and Manchester by the Sea earned several nods.

La La Land tied the record for most ever nominations at 14, previously set by Titanic and All About Eve. The musical’s nominations include best picture, best director for Damien Chazelle, leads Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and two in one category, best song.

Arrival and Moonlight each got eight. Deadpool, sadly, did not take home any nominations. Manchester received six nods, which all came in major categories including picture, director, screenplay and best actor, supporting actor and supporting actress.

Amazon Studios, the film and TV production arm of Jeff Bezos ’ e-commerce giant, made history Tuesday by becoming the first video streaming company to score a best picture nomination.

“Manchester By the Sea,” the acclaimed Casey Affleck drama backed by Amazon and distributed theatrically by Roadside Attractions, scored six nods from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which holds its awards ceremony Feb. 26.

The 89th Academy Awards will take place on Feb. 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and will air live at 5:30 p.m. PT.
