Legendary TV actor Kamal Ahmed Rizvi of Alif Noon fame dies

KARACHI: Famous Television actor and Dramatist Kamal Ahmed Rizvi passed away due to heart attack after a protracted illness at his residence in Karachi. He was 85.

He was born in 1930 in city of Gaya and moved to Karachi at the age of 19. He became a household name at the peak of his career. He is considered as one of the founding fathers of theater in Pakistan.

Kamal Ahmed Rizvi became famous after playing his role in one of PTV’s most celebrated sitcoms – Alif Noon – wherein he played the character of ‘Allan’ alongside Rafi Khawar (Nanha) in the 70s and 80s. Allan was shown as a clever business minded person who used to come up with some nasty and immoral tricks to earn fast money.

His role in Mr Shaitan was also very popular among the audience.

Rizvi had excelled in highlighting social evils through comedy and satire as the two mentioned TV shows are testament of the fact.

He remained the editor of popular digests, such as Tahzeeb, Aina and Shama for years and also remained attached with BBC Urdu for some time.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the legendary TV artist and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
