Moeed Yousaf, US national security advisor meet in Geneva

Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Moeed Yousaf met with his U.S. counterpart Jake Sullivan in Geneva. Both sides discussed matter of mutual, regional and global importance. They also agreed that further discussion of matter of importance is needed.

U.S. Secretary of Defense, Gen. Bajwa converse over the phone

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III held a telephonic conversation with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed matters of regional importance, according to a release from the White House.

The two sides discussed the dynamics of regional security. Austin appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for maintaining peace in the region, especially its support for the Afghan peace process. Both sides hoped that they can forge stronger ties.

Military aid remains suspended

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby confirmed during a news conference mentioned the conversation between the Secretary of Defense and Gen. Bajwa.  He also said that, at least for now, the military aid to Pakistan will remain suspended. The aid was originally suspended by the Trump administration.

“At this time, the US security assistance to Pakistan is still suspended. I will not get into speculating one way or another about if or whether that will change going forward,” Kirby said.
