Muhammad Rehman wins 5th CNS Golf Championship

LAHORE (Pakistan) – Muhamamad Rehman Malik of Royal Palm Golf & Country Club Lahore won the 5th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Amateur Golf Championship.

The three days long amateur championship concluded here on Sunday in Lahore.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah graced the prize distribution ceremony as Chief Guest. The grand prize distribution ceremony was also attended by Vice Admiral Khan Hasham Bin Saddique , Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Tariq, Rear Admiral Abdul Aleem, Commodore Sajid Mehmood Shahzad, Parvez Qureshi, Ramzan Sheikh and participating golfers.

In his speech, Chief of the Naval staff, said that Pakistan Navy, besides undertaking its primary role of defending our sea frontiers has also remained at the fore-front in promoting sports activities in the country. The Naval Chief added that promotion of golf has always been a priority for Pakistan Navy.

“I hope that this Golf Championship will hone the existing talent and help usher young golfers to the national scene. In years to come, this talent will Insha Allah bring laurels for the country at International level.” He underlined.

“Pakistan Navy will continue to support sports ventures like these in future as well”

In acknowledgement of the contributions made by sponsors, Admiral Zakaullah said that without whose support, conduct of such events may only become far and few. He hoped that the golfers as well as spectators will relish this keenly contested event.

At the conclusion of this three days long amateur championship, the experience, skills and maturity of very experienced national golfer Muhamamd Rehman of Royal Palm Golf & Country Club Lahore with a gross score of 223 enabled him to stamp his name on this prestigious trophy. In the final round, Muhamamd Rehman did not let his nearest contender Zohaib Asif of DHA Karachi Golf Club with a Gross score of 225 (C.B) cows him down. During the final holes, the challenger did make a herculean effort to curb the advance of Muhammad Rehman but failed to make a dent big enough to stop him from making a successful dash to victory.

Ghazanfar Mehmood of Butterfly Golf Club Rawalpindi with a Gross Score of 225 dropped down to 3rd position. During the final round, the race for the title revolved around these three contenders.

In the contest for net honours, the top one was Saleem Raza of Gujranwala Golf Club with a net score of 214, followed by net runner-up Ameer Khawar Khawaja of Sailkot Golf Club with a net score of 217. The seniors champion was Imran Ahmed of Gymkhana Lahore with a Gross score of 74 who put up an impressive display of golf. Tariq Mehmood of Garrison Golf Club Lahore with a Gross score of 76 was the runner-up while Col Muhamamd Shafi of Garrison Golf Club with a Gross score of 80 came third.

The invitational match trophy was won by Commodore Khalid Amin with a Gross score of 39 (C.B) during the contest, he played exceedingly well. The net winner in Invitational match is Rear Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi with a score of 32 (C.B). On the other hand, Commodore Saad Bin Jabbar won the longest drive prize and Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Tariq won the nearest to pin prize.

In the ladies tournament, the gross winner is Rimsha Ejaz of Margala Golf Club Islamabad with a Gross score of 85. She continues to dominate ladies golf and whenever she plays the winning tempo cannot be curbed by her competitors.

Maryama Khan of Gymkhana Lahore with a Gross score of 86 won second gross and Anna James Gill of Royal Palm Golf & Country Club Lahore with a Gross score of 91 acquired third position.

In the Juniors section the gross winner is Ali Anish Rehman of Gujranwala Golf Club with a Gross score of 75. Rao Muhammad Hassan of Rawalpindi Golf Club with a Gross score of 80 won second gross and Rao Muhammad Haris of Rawalpindi Golf Club Lahore with a Gross score of 83 acquired third position.
