The over 2 billion Muslims across the world can once again celebrate Eid al-Fitr in full swing after two years of subdued festivities due to pandemic restrictions and travel curbs.
As the fasting month of Ramadan comes to an end, Muslims across the world celebrated Eid al-Fitr, ”the festival of the breaking of the fast.”
Eid celebrations depend on when the new moon is sighted by local religious authorities.
Eid celebrations began on Monday, May 2 in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and neighbouring countries. Other countries including Pakistan that follow independent sightings celebrated Eid on Tuesday.
In Pakistan, the biggest Eid congregation was held at Polo Ground in Karachi after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Muslims begin the day with Eid prayers and wishing each other. Traditional desserts and sweets are prepared at homes as people spend the day visiting relatives and neighbours.
