CAIR’s executive director categorically said that we cannot celebrate Eid with abettors of Israeli apartheid
Major Muslim advocacy groups in the United States boycotted a virtual Celebration event from White for Eid-ul-Fitr citing that the Biden administration “aids, abets and justifies” Israeli airstrikes on Palestinians in Gaza.
Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) executive director Nihad Awad that the U.S. government is aiding the atrocities in Palestine where innocent women and children are being killed daily due to Israel’s air strikes.
“We cannot in good conscience celebrate Eid with the Biden Administration while it literally aids, abets, and justifies the Israeli apartheid government’s indiscriminate bombing of innocent men, women, and children in Gaza,” said Awad in a statement. “President Biden has the political power and moral authority to stop these injustices. We urge him to stand on the side of the victims and not the victimizer.”
U.S. side with Israel
During a recent telephonic conversation, U.S. President Joe Biden sided with Israel, suggesting it has the right to defend itself. The current situation was created by Israel by attacking the worshippers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque with hundreds injured. U.S. has long overlooked the brazen killings by Israel and reacts selectively to Hamas retaliations as acts of terrorism.
In a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, Biden “reaffirmed his strong support for Israel’s right to defend itself against rocket attacks from Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza”, the White House said in a statement. “He condemned these indiscriminate attacks against towns and cities across Israel.”
Losing popularity
In recent years, Democratic Party leaders have been very popular with Muslims. However, the current situation has left the Muslims fuming and the refusal to attend the White House event is a pretty clear indication of the frustration of the Muslims. This, however, is unlikely to have any effect on U.S. policies in the Middle East.
