Pakistan’s PM drawn 10,000 dirhams salary from 2006 to April 2014 as chairman  offshore company FZE

Supreme Court of Pakistan commissioned Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to look into the allegations of secret assets over Sharif family. JIT reveals that Nawaz Sharif had a work visa for Dubai and was receiving salary as Chairman Capital FZE along with Prime Minister-ship of Pakistan.

Sharif family denied JIT claim, but UAE-based legal firm has verified the contents of a report submitted to the Supreme Court by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which states that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was an employee of an offshore company in Dubai

According to the law firm Khalifa bin Huwaidan Advocates, based on the UAE’s labour laws, Sharif would have received a salary while serving as chairman of the offshore company until 2014.

However, as per the UAE labour law, all employees have to receive a salary through a bank account under the UAE’s Wage Protection System (WPS) failing which the firm can be blacklisted and shut down.

Nawaz who worked for Capital FZE from August 7, 2006 to April 20, 2014, receiving a salary of AED 10,000 (PK Rs. 286,000), said he worked remotely for the UAE based offshore company.

Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf’s All-Pakistan Muslim League party tweeted: “Confirmation by Khaleej Times. Nawaz Sharif is a source of shame for Pakistan!”

Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaaf shared the Khaleej Times story on its social media, saying, “Final nail in the coffin of Nawaz’s rule as Dubai-based firm verifies that Nawaz Sharif was an employee of a UAE company till 2014 which was never declared by him.”

However, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal had claimed that Sharif was named the chairman of Capital FZE in the documents due to some legal issues in acquiring a resident visa (iqama) of the UAE.

The JIT also stated that Nawaz did not disclose this information before running for the highest public office in 2013 which is against the Constitution of Pakistan. The JIT findings are based on its correspondence with Jafza.

The SC is currently hearing a case against the Sharifs who are being probed after the Panama Papers revealed in 2016, that three of his children owned offshore companies and assets which are not shown on his family’s wealth statement. The assets in question also include four expensive flats in Park Lane, London.
