Nawaz Sharif may face treason charges after supporting Modi’s narrative

ISLAMABAD — Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was in deep trouble after he claimed in an interview that “Pakistan should have allowed non-state actors to kill 150 people in Mumbai”.

In an interview to a Dawn newspaper, former Prime Minister who has been ousted by Supreme Court last year on corruption charges and employment abroad also claimed that Pakistani court was sitting on Mumbai case and could not make any decision.

The interview was over-played by Indian media on May 13 and almost all Indian TV channels repeated during whole day that claims as ‘breaking news’ and maligned Pakistani authorities.

In Pakistan, Opposition party leader in the Senate PPP’s Dr. Shireen Rehman condemned that attack and called it as ‘stamp on Indian PM Modi’s claims”.

Another Opposition leader PTI’s Imran Khan called Nawaz Sharif as the “Mir Sadiq of this century”. Several other leaders also called for the explanation from Nawaz Sharif party leaders over the statement which is seen as a ‘treason’ by media.

The military’s spokesman in a twit said that PM has been suggested to call a meeting on May 14, 2018 of National Security Council to discuss the wrong statement.

Several other politicians called for a treason case against Nawaz Sharif and equated his statement with those issued by MQM’s Altaf Hussain and demanded an early action against him for damaging the national narrative of Pakistan.

Several TV commentators claimed that Nawaz Sharif had only reaffirmed his friendship with Modi and wanted to send a message that he was opposed to the military and was thus ousted from power.
