NBP won first CNS All Pakistan Hockey Tournament 2016

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah awarded trophies to the winner and runner-up teams

KARACHI – National Bank of Pakistan clinched the 1st CNS All Pakistan Hockey Tournament 2016 today at Hockey Stadium, Karachi, beating SSGC by a score of 2-0.

The tournament commenced from 21st January in which 08 top national teams competed for the title. The closing ceremony was graced by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah. Chief Guest awarded trophies to the winner and runner-up teams. The winning team was awarded gold medals and a cash prize of Rs. 1.1 million while silver medals with 0.8 million and bronze medals with 0.6 million were awarded to securing second and third position respectively.

Rashid Mehmood(PN) was declared the best player of the tournament and was awarded cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- Mazhar Abbas (NBP) was declared the best goalkeeper, while Muhammad Sabir (PN) was declared the best scorer and were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- each.

Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah while congratulating the winning team on their exceptional performance said that the conduct of this tournament was an effort to motivate the youth towards constructive and collective teamwork and to revive the national game.

The Admiral said that there is no dearth of talent in the country he is pleased to know that some players have elevated themselves during the tournament thus raising the bar in the field of hockey. He also announced that Pakistan Navy would place a mini Astroturf for the training of youngsters in the game of hockey.

The Chief Guest urged all to put-in more efforts to make this game popular amongst the masses and encouraged other departments to hold such tournament at national level. The Naval chief announced that this tournament will continue to be held every year under Pakistan Navy’s patronage. He also thanked Pakistan Hockey Federation, Sponsors and Navy’s managing committee for making the event a success.
